Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies pairs teen volunteers with young readers for maximum learning and maximum fun!

Teens ages 13-18, do you like to read? Become a Reading Buddy and read with a reluctant 1st-3rd grade reader. Earn community service hours!

Parents of struggling readers ages 6-9, your child may benefit from reading with a trained teen buddy. Together, they'll play games, choose books appropriate for your child's reading level, read, and review to increase reading comprehension.

Colorado Author Series: LaVonne Perkins

The little-known adventures of Daniel Chessman Oakes (also known as D.C. Oakes) come to life in D.C. Oakes - Family, Friends & Foe. Local author Lavonne Perkins will share stories of Oakes' connections to Buffalo Bill Cody and Kit Carson, along with new information not found in her book.

Kids Mystery Scavenger Hunt

Kids ages 5-12, use your sleuthing skills and follow the clues to solve a mystery in our Children's Area.

Come in between August 16 and September 24 to register. All who complete the hunt will be entered into a drawing for a free book!

Celebrate literacy and community, and read The Christopher Killer by Alane Ferguson!


The Christopher Killer, a young adult forensic mystery set in Silverton, Colorado, is the inspiration for many upcoming library events for the whole family. We'll have book discussions, Hitchcock mystery films, science and mystery events for kids, a special crime scene investigation program with CRPD, an interactive teen murder mystery, and of course, a visit from author Alane Ferguson.
